Review ; Spoiler or non spoiler ; Both

4 stars and it is excellently written. The author doesn’t fail to hit the nail on the head . Literally!

A little bit too straight foward but much detail on a particular explanation of certain words masked in telling the tale. It’s poetry and the beauty of poetry to me , is having to read these sentences over and over again and give meaning.

Beautifully written.

The book is a poetry book and generally describes what love feels like , the sacrifices and what we tend to over look because we say that we are in love. It’s her own world and now she has to make choices on how to find her way in this affair of love .

Asking Questions, dishing out advice and most especially pouring out her heart in words. Words we love , detest or even wish to hear.

She is the Bird

Her words , the song.

Some of my favorite excerpts from the book;

“when you take it for granted

so, when you say you love me,

darling, are you here for a summer fling or the whole four seasons?”

The Bird sings again, asking very important questions . Yes! You hate to see it but this is the way the Author asks questions you may think will taunt him. But it’s simply the truth.

This is my best part of the book. Until you read it thrice , you wouldn’t understand the emotion attached to it. To me , this is when the bird hits high notes and in the end where the last word hangs , the word drops with the note to remind us . To remind you of the message it’s passing.

“choose to believe in choices:

that you will choose me

just as i have chosen you”

“mother said

i want you to grow up big and strong

but do not grow away from me”.

“if you must love me

darling, love truthfully

hold my delicate heart between your bones—

bare & exposed. let your truth crush me. let me choose, whether to love you still or save my heart from shattering into a litter of dashed dreams”

A theme of CHOICE explained here. You want to let him love you but you are scared of letting him leave you with a broken heart. You venture into it anyways , not giving a damn!

Now the bird will speak for you , give you courage to ask these questions confidently and not mind what people will say.

The use of the word BRAILLE using the body as illustration in this book is beautiful and wonderfully written.

“i waited for you for a very long time & when you came i did not know what to do with your arrival”

— quarter past late

“any love is worth the taste

why does God do that— tease us with a love

that does not last?

i want to say:

“i don’t want it. i don’t want a love that will not stay”

but i lie: any love at all is worth the taste”.

What a poem🤩

“declutter

sometimes i want to pack up

& leave my body behind

in search of solace

away from my heart’s cluttered mess of strange smells & imprints

of former lovers. then I remember

how the flowers blossom every summer & how the earth heals from winter’s scorn & i teach my body to heal

from these scars

& my heart to love

even when it hurts”.

Ending my review with this , I have already given a summary and I’ll recommend it to everyone out there especially Ladies who love Poetry who love to love. We will later discover through this book , that one sided love is toxic and we should love because it’s what we want to. Forgetting society , judgement from people and obstacles in our way.

Highly recommended and I’d love to thank Damore Alli for an online copy of this book💕.
