BOOKS THAT WILL GET YOU OUT OF A READING SLUMP

Not sure what to read next? or facing a reading slump? I have curated a list of some books that I enjoyed this year and helped get me out of my slump. Knowing me, I am a mood reader so it is very hard to find a read that will captivate me. This is why this books are on my radar.

Against the Loveless World by Susan Abulhawa

This book follows a young Palestinian refugee who spends her time in a prison reflecting on how she has lived life and the events that led to the current situation she is in. The book is very raw and explicit with the details and intricate about how much impact a character can cause and how much the plots interweaves each other. GOODREADS MINI REVIEW

Blood Feast by Malika Moustadraf, Alice Guthrie(translator)

This is a collection of stories that are striking and very fascinating. It is set in Morocco and you can tell how it is violently against patriarchy as it tacked gender and family dynamics. The book tackles a lot of themes that challenges systems already put in place to subdue rights and how through writing, there is rebellion and discomfort. It pushes you out of your comfort zone. It is also a book with lesser pages which is why I will recommend it. GOODREADS MINI REVIEW

Positively Yours by Jung Lee, Kangki(illustrator)

This is a contemporary romance manhwa that is a series. You will need to read them according to the order of the volumes. It is originally a novel which you can also read to. It is a very healthy type of romance which I really adored and it made me giggle and laugh. Things are handled very maturely in this and I loved it. If you loved The office blind date/business proposal then this is for you.

The Mountains sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai

Pinterest

The Mountains Sing tells an enveloping, multigenerational tale of the Trần family, set against the backdrop of the Việt Nam War. Trần Diệu Lan, who was born in 1920, was forced to flee her family farm with her six children during the Land Reform as the Communist government rose in the North. Years later in HĂ  Ná»™i, her young granddaughter, Hương, comes of age as her parents and uncles head off down the Hồ ChĂ Minh Trail to fight in a conflict that tore apart not just her beloved country, but also her family.
I loved this book so much and what made me keep going was the way I got to see life and experience the story through Houng and her grandma. I really enjoyed this book and it made me so informed about the War in Vietnam. The characters and everything I enjoyed it so much .

Liberated by Kimberly Brown

An independent woman breaks off her engagement with her partner and chooses herself. She has refused to bow to misogyny and now decides to embark on the honeymoon planned with her best friend. She decides to live freely and see what life has to offer where she meets a man who has come for his sisters wedding too. It is an erotic short romance book where the woman puts herself first and decides how she wants to live life. The book is very refreshing and a very easy read.

The Housemaid by Freida McFadden

Pinterest

Thriller books are my go to sometimes when I’m in a very bad reading slump and this pick is the best. A very light and easy read with a second book too that picks up from the pace where this one stopped. A woman who gets a job as a housemaid to a very rich family realizes that all that it is is not what it seems. The twists are either too predictable or not at all and this is a good read to get back into reading. GOODREADS MINI REVIEW

One Week In Paradise by Anise Starre

Instagram

The best book to read when you’re on a vacation especially to places where you can see the beach and the tropical vibes. An influencer goes on a couples all expense paid trip to Jamaica with a fake boyfriend who happens to be her childhood friend. It is a fake dating trope and very easy to read. The romance makes it very easy to get into.

Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

Pinterest

For the lovers of fantasy, this book is a historical fantasy young adult romance book that centers two young journalists who write letters to each other and eventually fall in love. There are so many adventures and myths about gods that heighten the plot. Very interesting pace for those planning on reading the genre. A light and intriguing read that will keep you hooked.
